A wonderful, timeless movie - buy the blu-ray for the extras.

I watched this on television many years ago and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it even more this time round. An exceptional cast, especially the wonderful Millie Perkins, and a beautiful musical score by Alfred Newman. The extras on the blu-ray are fascinating and as I write this I am listening to the commentary by George Stevens Jnr and Millie Perkins. A fastastic addition to my film library. A fitting tribute to a very brave girl.

Miscast and disappointing

I'm an Anne Frank aficionado and was looking forward to watching this, but was unable to sit the whole way through - I tried twice. The fault unfortunately lies, in my view, in the casting of Katharine Schlesinger, who portrays Anne as shrill and unlikeable; the adult characters are much more likeable. Better DVDs are the two later versions - one starring Ben Kingsley as Otto Frank and Hannah Taylor-Gordon as Anne ('Anne Frank - The Whole Story') and the more recent version starring Ellie Kendrick, which in my view is the best.
